Lar Corbett hails Padraic Maher as ‘best game I’ve ever seen’ after the legendary Tipperary retired from hurdles

LAR CORBETT says Pádraic Maher is the greatest hurdler he has ever seen playing for Tipperary and Thurles Sarsfields.

Corbett was one of a number of stars to cross the line to wish Maher well in his retirement.

Of his fellow Thurles man, Corbett tweeted: “Best thing I’ve seen was playing games with @TipperaryGAA and @thurlessars.”

Maher announced his retirement in an emotional statement yesterday.

It was not the ending I wanted, but the time has come for me to announce my retirement.

“Unfortunately, I recently received medical advice regarding a neck injury, and I was advised to give up contact sports. It is heartbreaking to have to make this decision, but it is the most important decision for me and my future health.

“Representing Tipperary has been a lifelong dream and I am truly honored and honored to have played for Tipperary for 13 seasons. I’ve made some really great friends and met some great people.

“I made memories that will stick with me for the rest of my days.

“While I really wish this could have lasted a little longer, I’m happy that I can look back and know that I gave everything I had to the blue yellow shirt.”

Jake Morris is delighted to have had the opportunity to partner Maher with Tipperary, but the talented striker also misses him as a fan.

“I think the best memory I have of him is when we played the minor All-Ireland game in 2016 and sat down in the Hogan stand afterwards,” Morris said.

“And in the senior final, Pádraic Maher nailed Joe Canning to the other side of the line in front of us. I will never forget its pain, shoulder that day. ”

But he is also a proud and dedicated Thurles Sarsfields club player.

In his statement, Maher – who makes Garda – added: “What can I say about my beloved club Thurles Sarsfields. What you have done for my career is unbelievable.

“The support I received, the wonderful years on the pitch and the memories we had, I will cherish for the rest of my days. While I may not get to wear that famous blue jersey again, I’ll never be too far from ‘The Outside Field’. “
