Larry the Cat kicks off last minute prime ministerial campaign as Tory leadership race ends

Larry the catKnown to the Cabinet Office as Chief Mouser and residing at 10 Downing Street, has recently made an unexpected offer for the top job.

Fans have spotted billboards promoting the Larry 4 Leader campaign after appearing in the final leg of the leader race last week.

Tabby, 15,’s unofficial Twitter account shared a snap of one of the billboards on Saturday and has since racked up 16.7k likes on the platform.

Larry is a permanent resident of Number 10 who has “passed three prime ministers” and “expects [his] fourth sub-tenant”.

Social media couldn’t get enough of the surprise nominee, and many shared their thoughts in the comments.

One user wrote, “At my desk ready to serve #LarryforLeader #Yeswecat Just dreaming of some new policies like unlimited food and floofball games.”

Another fan added: “Larry we all trust and believe in you unlike all your ex housemates!!”

A third added: “We need clarity on all your ‘paw’ likies… I’ll get my jacket.”

The beloved cat was cast in his role by then Prime Minister David Cameron in 2011 after he was adopted by the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Larry’s daily chores include “thinking about a solution for mouse occupancy around the house” and “spending his days welcoming guests into the house,” according to the 10 Downing Street UK Government website.

The race for Tory leadership ends today with the announcement of the new Conservative Party leader and British Prime Minister.

Either the former Chancellor or Foreign Secretary will replace outgoing Boris Johnson, who resigned in July after a wave of mass resignations from his cabinet and party.

The new Prime Minister will be announced at 12 noon on Monday 5 September.

According to the results, the new prime minister will choose his final cabinet and ministerial roles.

They will also write their prime ministerial speech.

The next day, Boris Johnson is expected to officially leave office and offer his resignation to the Queen along with the new Prime Minister.
