Last chance for up-and-coming artists to perform at Beatle’s former home

Unsigned artists get one last chance to apply to perform at Sir Paul McCartney’s childhood home.

Earlier this month, the National Trust announced plans to allow up-and-coming artists to write and perform at 20 Forthlin Road, the home where Sir Paul and John Lennon began their songwriting partnership.

Musicians have until just before midnight on Saturday to attend the Forthlin Sessions, which will be judged by Sir Paul’s brother Mike and music writer Pete Paphides, after consultation with the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (Lipa).

The terraced house in Allerton, Liverpool – which has been restored by the National Trust to look almost exactly as it did when Sir Paul lived there – was where Beatles hits like ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ and ‘Love Me Do” were written.

Mr Paphides said: “Twenty Forthlin Road is a reminder that the creative journey of almost every songwriter, whose music has marked the defining moments of your life, began in an ordinary room in an ordinary house.

“Whether you play solo or in a band, regardless of genre, this is an exceptional opportunity.

“So far I’ve loved listening to the entries, but I’m far from done – and if other up-and-coming artists of all genres want to apply, I’m all ears.”

The Forthlin Sessions are open to all non-signed UK based music artists over the age of 18.

To apply, visit nationaltrust.org.uk/the-forthlin-sessions before midnight on April 30th.
