Last month I went into a manic episode. Let me share with you how it felt

In early September, I slipped into mild mania. I’m glad (not to mention lucky) that this doesn’t happen regularly. As a certified “mad bitch” (bipolar type II is my personal brand of mad bitch), I have episodes every now and then, and while they’re not all disastrous, they can feel like it at times. Because of the perspective-distorting properties that characterize virtually every mental illness, I didn’t realize at first that this was the case. That’s the gnarly nature of these things. The hard part about mania is that you feel freaking amazing at first.

Of course, I don’t want to talk about it in too general terms as it no doubt feels different for everyone, but after slipping off the cliff last month I feel compelled to document it to try and spread it out for myself to get around it to investigate and gain understanding of this strange and unbearable condition as well as others.
