Latest Cost of Living: Universal Credit warning as DWP rule change could result in 120,000 losing benefit payments

THOUSANDS of Universal Credit are at risk of losing their benefits due to an upcoming rule change.

The change will affect the Administrative Earnings Threshold (AET), which will result in about 120,000 looking for more work or having to start work.

Currently, Universal Credit applicants must earn the equivalent of 12 hours of wages per week, but from January 30 this will increase to 15 hours of minimum-wage work.

Failure to meet requirements could result in sanctions, meaning Universal Credit payments will be temporarily suspended.

Some will already be affected as their payments have already been processed this month.
