Actress Laurel Goodwin has died aged 79, her sister Maureen Scott has confirmed.

Her sister said the star died on February 25, but did not disclose the cause of death.

In a sweet tribute, sister Maureen explained that “if she knew you, you would be family in no time”.

Laurel became known through her film debut at the age of 19 when she co-starred with music icon Elvis Presley in Girls! Girls! Girls!

She plays the rich girl Laurel Dodge eager to win Elvis’s affection. The most famous scene in the movie is the emotional dance scene between the couple.

Four years later, she starred alongside Jeffery Hunter in the failed Star Trek pilot originally titled Star Trek: The Cage. She was cast as Yeoman JM Colt.

Despite the setback, the producers kept her as they hoped to try again. She hinted at getting offers to play the pilot for two other web comedies, but had to wait for Star Trek.

Speaking to StarTrek.com in 2016, she explained, “I said, ‘Oh, no. Star Trek is it. I have to do Star Trek. It’s great, it’s going to be great.”

Elsewhere, she has starred in television series such as The Virginian, Mannix and The Dain Curse and The Beverly Hillbillies.

She retired from acting in 1971 and worked as a nurse before co-producing the film Stroke Ace with her husband Walter Wood.

The star’s fans took to social media to offer their condolences following the news of her passing.

One Twitter user wrote: “So sad to hear that Laurel Goodwin, another member of our #StarTrek family, has passed away.

“Laurel appeared alongside Captain Pike, Number One, and Spock in the original, “The Cage.” My condolences go out to her family and loved ones.”

Another wrote: “Rest assured Laurel Goodwin. Colt is one of my favorite characters in The Cage, I’ve had her haircut for ages.”

A third person said: “Extremely sad news of Laurel Goodwin’s passing. It was a complete shock to our team working at the Roddenberry Archives. She will be greatly missed. a lot of.”

And the fourth part added: “SAD FAREWELL. Laurel Goodwin was in #StarTrek THE CAGE and appeared opposite #ElvisPresley in GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS. I just received news that Laurel passed away on February 25 at the age of 25. 79. RIP.”
