Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga developers created new creatures from existing model sets

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the first time that developer Traveler’s Tales has adapted every movie in the main Star Wars franchise. As a result, there are many classic creatures that the studio had to adapt for the first time, including creatures that have never been built by Lego as physical kits. To keep things as authentic as possible, the artists used parts from existing kits as references for these new creatures and ‘crafted’ them from a mixture of existing parts. yes and original.

In the new developer log released in IGN Fan FestNeil Crofts, Head of Character Art for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, said: “What we’re going to do is look at the movie reference, and we’re going to take the creatures and the characters. existing Lego objects are similar, and then what we end up with is something as precise as possible that we can create. ”

“Take bantha for example,” he said. “It’s really true of lego IP and it’s really true of movie IP.”

The concept images in the video also show how Rathar, the squid-like creature from The Force Awakens, was designed using a combination of brand new parts and items from existing kits. Rathar’s body is a new two-piece component, but it’s based on the Lego GyroSphere from the Lego Jurassic World set. Attached to this body are newly designed tentacles, in addition to the tail and tusks of a Lego dragon set. Finally, Rathar’s mouth is made up of 3794 classic Lego pieces, perhaps better known as flat plates with a nail on them. This means that a minifig character can easily be clamped to the mouth for any eating scene.

While other creatures may not use exact pieces from other kits, they are closely simulated to match any close references in order to maintain authenticity.
