Leicester vs Brentford result: Substitute Josh Dasilva scores late equalizer for Bees

Substitute Josh Dasilva’s late rocket saved Brentford a point as they held back from two goals in their Premier League opener at Leicester to draw 2-2.

Dasilva, a second-half substitute for Mathias Jensen, scored an unlikely equalizer four minutes from time for the Bees, who had played as clear second-best for most of the game.

Leicester had offered more than good value for their 2-0 lead after goals in each half from Timothy Castagne and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall before Ivan Toney pulled one back in the 62nd minute.

The Foxes dominated the first 45 minutes to such an extent that their 1-0 lead at the break was hardly rewarded.

It was a one-way affair after Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo shot straight at Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward in the 10th minute.

Ward, who preferred Daniel Iversen in goal after Kasper Schmeichel’s departure to Ligue 1 club Nice, was rarely used.

At the other end, Bees goalkeeper David Raya was much busier, parrying a curl from Wilfred Ndidi before James Maddison headed a Youri Tielemans cross just wide.

Maddison was the provider as the Foxes deservedly took the lead in the 27th minute when Castagne mounted the highest to power his corner home.

Maddison and Dewsbury-Hall were the focus of Leicester’s best work as Brentford sat deep and was surprisingly passive, with the former’s volley being conveniently collected by Raya.

Raya was hit again three minutes before half-time when Tielemans’ 25-yard shot ricocheted off his right post, but the Foxes better reflected their dominance just 30 seconds into the restart.

Jamie Vardy struck Dewsbury-Hall 25 yards from goal and the impressive homegrown midfielder fired a low shot into the bottom corner.

It looked like a long road for the Bees but they snapped out of their torpor and Toney hurled a lifeline at them after a rare push in the 62nd minute.

Toney controlled the ball from Rico Henry to the edge of the six-yard box and after deflecting Daniel Amartey’s challenge, he hooked the ball home.

Leicester responded with Wesley Fofana’s header from Maddison’s free-kick, which hit a post before Raya sent the rebound clear.

As the game went into the final quarter, Brentford continued to improve and were close to equalizing when Toney escaped his marker at the far post and headed Mbeumo’s brilliant deep cross just inches away.

But out of nowhere in the closing stages, Dasilva found a shot from the edge of the box to equalize after clipping his left foot inside.
