Len Goodman announces retirement from Dancing With The Stars

Len Goodman has announced that he will be leaving the role of main judge of the show Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) after more than 15 years with the American show.

He is a British professional dancer and former judge on the serious dance show, saying he wants to “spend more time with his grandchildren and family” when he returns to the UK.

He announced the news during Monday’s semi-final episode of DWTS, which received a standing ovation from the audience.

“While we are all excited and looking forward to the finale next week, it will also be a bit sad, as this will be my last season as a judge on Dancing with the Stars. ,” I said.

“I’ve been on the show since it started in 2005 and I’m so excited to be a part of such a great show.

“But I’ve decided I want to spend more time with my grandchildren and family in the UK.”

He added: “I can’t thank you enough, Dancing With The Stars family, it’s been an amazing experience for me and I’m so looking forward to next week’s finale, I’m sure it’s going to be incredibly brilliant. brilliant.”

DWTS host Tyra Banks hailed Goodman as a “living legend” following his announcement, noting that many of the show’s US professional dancers grew up watching him dance.

“You have inspired generations of dancers around the globe with your passion, expertise and keen eye,” Banks said.

“They will continue that commitment to excellence forever, thank you very much.”

Goodman, 78, stepped down as chief judge on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2016, having joined the jury since the show began in 2004.

He appeared on the Serious panel alongside Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and Arlene Phillips, who was later replaced by Alesha Dixon and later Darcey Bussell.

Goodman’s last appearance on Serious was on the 2016 Christmas Day Special, after which he was replaced as chief judge by Dame Shirley Ballas.

He started dancing at the age of nineteen and turned professional, winning various competitions, including the British Championships in Blackpool in his late twenties, after which he retired.

Goodman is the recipient of the Carl Alan Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to dance.

In addition to a successful dance and television career, he is also the owner of Goodman Academy – a dance school in Dartford, Kent.
