Albion fans have been given renewed hope of a timely Lewis Dunk recall in England ahead of the World Cup.
Seagulls skipper and forward Danny Welbeck is included in Gareth Southgate’s 55-man roster for Qatar along with Eberechi Eze, James Maddison and Callum Wilson, according to The Athletic and Mail Online reports.
Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi recently said he had read that Welbeck was mentioned in connection with England.
He has also expressed surprise that Dunk only won on Cap.
The centre-back has missed a number of occasions in the four years since he played against USA at Wembley, despite consistently good form.
England boss Southgate will cut the 55-man list to 26 for the tournament.
Albion will be well represented in Qatar.
Kaoru Mitoma is the first Albion player confirmed for the 2022 World Cup.
Robert Sanchez is one of six goalkeepers on Spain’s 55-man list and will make it.
Ecuadorian trio Moises Caicedo, Pervis Estupinan and Jeremy Sarmiento are also set to leave, while Leandro Trossard is believed to be a key player for Belgium.
Tariq Lamptey is on course for a place in Ghana and Alexis Mac Allister is awaiting confirmation that he will be included in Argentina’s squad.
Andi Zeqiri, the striker on loan at Basel, is considered an outsider in the Swiss squad.
