Liam Sloyan becomes Ombudsman for Financial Services and Pensions

Treasury Secretary Paschal Donohoe has appointed Liam Sloyan as Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman for a five-year term starting December 1.

Sloyan has held senior positions with the Health Insurance Administration and the National Treatment Purchase Fund and was previously a regulator of the National Lottery.

The Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman is an independent, impartial service established to help resolve complaints by consumers, including small businesses and other organizations, against financial service providers, including banks, insurance companies and pension providers.

The Treasury Department press office said Secretary Donohoe, in consultation with the Secretary of Social Protection, selected Mr Sloyan from an open recruitment process administered by the Public Appointments Service.

The appointment follows the appointment of former Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Ger Deering as state ombudsman and information officer in February.

Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman Council Chair Maeve Dineen said Mr Sloyan has had an excellent track record throughout his career.

“My fellow councilors and I are very keen to work with him to achieve the goals of the Office of the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman,” she said.
