“Like a kid waiting all day to see Santy” – Delight for Garth Brooks fans who travel to Croke Park from across the country

Garth Brook fans, who had traveled from all corners of the country to pay homage to the country sensation, were not fazed by a sudden downpour in central Dublin.

They had waited eight years for the American showman to finally fulfill his promise to perform for his Irish fans in the sacred grounds of Croke Park and nothing would stop them.

Instantly recognizable by their colorful Stetsons and palpable excitement, a steady stream of Garth fans stamped through the streets with determination as they made their way to the Northside venue.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., the curtain rises for the first of his five performances, and the 400,000 fans in total will witness how history is made.

In view of the high accommodation prices, many visitors had decided to travel to and from the concert by train or bus.

Cork woman Janet Egan, who was there with friend Tina Geary, said she was “like a kid who waits all day to see Santy”.

And who could blame her, considering she’s waited 28 years to see country music sensation Garth Brooks in person?

“I got in line for his concert at the Point Theater in 1994. We had to queue at HMV for tickets and I was next in line. Then they came down and said, ‘Sorry, we’re sold out.’ I cried,” she said.

She tried again in 2014 and again she queued up for him all night when she was pregnant and of course it was cancelled. This time it will be “luck for the third time” for her. “I can’t wait now, it’s getting unreal. My favorite song is Baton Rouge, but I love all of his songs,” she said.

The married couple Kate Hanly and Eddie Harty, who took the train for the concert, celebrated their 21-year anniversary together.

“It’s great to be here on the first night and we’re going back on the Limerick Concert train tonight. Someone said it costs thousands for a hotel here now. I’d love to hear him play The Dance because we’re 21 years together this week and that was our song when we first met,” she said.

Many ticket holders had chosen to take the train or bus to and from the concert, given the high cost of accommodation.

As for what fans can expect tonight, they reckon it will be an “epic three-hour show” as he saves the best for last when his world tour concludes in Dublin.
