Here’s everything you need to know about the show – from where it’s located to who it stars – before it airs tonight on Drama
Detective movies are pricier these days, so it takes a real twist in the story to create a crime-solving show that makes a difference. Well, Father Brown writer Jude Tindall has done just that with her new spin-off, Sister Boniface Mysteries .
According to the USPs, how does a Vespa running in a run-down state make a sound? Well, you guessed it – Lorna Watson is taking on the role of Sister Boniface, a nun with a knack for solving crimes.
Sound good so far? Here’s everything you need to know about the show – from the movie’s location to the people it stars in – before it airs at 9pm tonight (March 11) on Drama.
What is Sister Boniface Mysteries around?
Forget CSI-style forensics: this crime series is set in the 1960s. The Great Slaughter police department’s secret weapon to solve murder mysteries is the “nun,” not Tu’s Sister Boniface. St Vincent’s Institute.
With a doctorate in forensic science and an IQ not second to Einstein, Sister Boniface is perfectly suited to help with the unorthodox efforts of Detective Inspector Sam Gillespie and his tough sergeant major, Felix Livingstone.
Boniface knows the devil is in the details, and uncovering clues hidden in plain sight is this superstar explorer’s forte. Her first case? A woman was found stuffed in her aunt Sally at a local festival. Cause of death: suffocation from sawdust in a lucky dip.
The cast of Sister Boniface Mysteries
As for the cast, this new crime series boasts a cast of characters with some pretty impressive CVs. Lorna – who appeared in the first series of Father Brown – returned to the small screen as Sister Boniface (above).
The Jude series creator explained: “Because Lorna jumped so happily into season one of Father Brown , I always have a plan to bring her back. Now that that plan has come to fruition, I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
DI Sam is played by none other than Max Brown. Downton Abbey fans will recognize the dashing detective from the 2019 film, in which he plays Thomas Barrow’s long-awaited love interest, Richard Ellis.
Joining him is Sex education star Jerry Iwu, who plays DS Felix. After a secondment to the Met Police was disturbed due to administrator oversight, Felix reluctantly joined forces in Great Slaughter.
Where Sister Boniface Mysteries put?
The 12-part film is set in the aptly named Great Slaughter town – a fictional (thankfully) settlement in the English countryside with a serious crime problem. Sister Boniface resides at St Vincent’s Monastery, which houses her fully equipped laboratory along with a small group of brewing nuns.
While DS Felix might disagree with DI Sam’s God-fearing aide, the latter learned that having a super cop on his payroll would help him maintain “the highest cleanup rate in the county.”
Sister Boniface Mysteries starts at 9pm tonight (March 11) on the TV Movie channel or streamed live on UKTV Play.
