Actress Lily Collins is dying to appear in ‘The Crown’ 30 years after she snubbed Princess Diana and hurled a toy at Prince Charles.
Lily – star of hit Netflix show Emily in Paris and daughter of Genesis star Phil – loves TV drama royal.
At the age of three, she famously refused to give Diana a bouquet of flowers.
Lily was at a Prince’s Trust party with her rock star dad Phil and mom Jill Tavelman.
Lily, now 33, said: “Legend has it that I presented Princess Diana with a bouquet of flowers and when she was about to take it, I tried to pull it back, like you do, you know… I guess I just didn’t do it know protocol.”
A photographer snapped a radiant Diana accepting the bouquet from a serious Lily.
And she later clashed with half-kings when she joined some cast members of The Crown in a 2018 BBC adaptation of Les Miserables.
These included Josh O’Connor who played Charles, Erin Doherty who played Princess Anne and Olivia Colman who appeared as the Queen.
Lily said: “Olivia was already cast as the Queen when we were shooting.
“I was a huge fan of The Crown and I grilled her, asked her questions but she was sworn to utmost secrecy and couldn’t tell me anything.
“Josh auditioned for Prince Charles while we were filming our BBC show, so I asked him a few questions.
“Oh, and Erin Doherty, who plays Anne, was on our show, so it was like everyone was making The Crown out of our show.
“I was like, ‘Um, I’m available!’ Everything about it is so good.”
Lily, who was born in Sussex but now lives in Los Angeles, spoke verbatim on the! podcast. She revealed that as a child she attended “quite a lot of events” and met “really fascinating people” – including the royals.
Lily said: “I was told that I also met Prince Charles and we played with some toys I had and I think it was like a toy phone and I threw it at him. You just don’t do it, but as a kid you’re like, ‘I’m playing with you… I don’t know any better’.”
Lily married director Charlie McDowell in Colorado last year.
Emily in Paris, about a US marketing executive moving to France, was a worldwide hit for Netflix, attracting more than 50 million viewers.
