Lin-Manuel Miranda slams Hamilton’s ‘illegal, unauthorized’ production

Lin-Manuel Miranda has criticized an “illegal, unauthorized” production of his hit musical Hamilton and promised legal consequences for those responsible.

The composer-director thanked the Dramatists Guild for their support in condemning Door McAllen Church for their Texas production.

The musical was performed without a license earlier this month and reportedly had lyrics changed and text added to make for a more “Christianized” version of the show.

“Grateful to everyone who has come forward about this illegal, unauthorized production,” Miranda wrote on Twitter.

“Now lawyers are doing their jobs.

“And always grateful to the @dramatistsguild who have the backs of writers everywhere, be it your first play or your fiftieth.”

He also shared a statement from the Dramatists Guild citing the “brazen violation” of his work.

“No organization, whether professional, amateur or religious, is exempt from these laws,” the statement said.

“No work by a writer, whether it be a student just writing his first play or Lin-Manuel Miranda, may be performed without his permission.
