Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been informed of their decision to join PSG and Manchester United “not smart” as they both struggled this semester.
The two men have had to take on new challenges this summer as they try to keep their place at the top of football.
Messi’s contract situation means he’s forced to leave Barcelona and he moved to France with nothing. Ronaldo meanwhile ended his three years in Juventus and come back Premier League.
Messi is expected to help PSG charge Champions League but scored only seven goals in all competitions against the Parisians outside of the league.
United meanwhile have fallen a lot from last season and they and Ronaldo could now be absent from the top four in the Premier League. Ronaldo’s influence is also considered by some to be negative due to the way the team was forced to change its style.
Nicolas Anelka, formerly of Arsenal and Chelsea, believes the duo didn’t choose wisely as they chose for their next steps. Messi and Ronaldo have 12 Ballon d’Ors between them but have a combined age of 71 as they enter the final years of their careers.
“This is what happens to players who want to play longer,” said Anelka RMC Sport . “Their careers are over and I think both must be very happy with what they have achieved in the last 15 years. They got ahead of everyone else and now it’s normal for them to slow down.
“I was more surprised with Messi than with Ronaldo, I thought that Messi would rotate in France and Ronaldo would have more difficulty in England because for me the Premier League is the most difficult championship in the world.

“[They] not intelligent. They should think of facing a less complicated challenge because you have to make the right decisions to finish in first place. There are players who are not afraid to finish at the age of 32, 33, 34 to not be criticized. I stopped at 36, but at 32 I went to China. “
Messi is expected to stay at PSG after this season but has been linked with an MLS move before he retires. However, Ronaldo’s situation at United could become more complicated, especially if they miss out on the Champions League. The club are looking to appoint a new long-term manager who is sure to come with his own ideas and expectations.
Gary Neville told Sports sky : “I’m not sure, it depends on who the manager is and what the project is for the new manager. Does he want to build a young, sporty and progressive squad? Ronaldo could play at that – but if he wants to play every week, which seems to be the case, then maybe the manager wants a fresh start. ”
