The nation entered a period of national mourning today following its confirmation the Queen had unfortunately died at the age of 96, causing several events to be cancelled.

The tragic news was confirmed Thursday night after members of the royal family traveled to Balmoral the Queen was at rest.

A statement from Buckingham Palace confirming the news read: “The Queen died peacefully in Balmoral this afternoon.
