Little Simz ended an impressive year after winning the 2022 Mercury Prize for her fourth album Sometimes I Can Be Introvert.
he is an English rapper and singer, real name is Simbiatu Ajikawo, from Islington in north London, and grew up with her parents on a council estate.
She began her career performing at St Mary’s Youth Club on Upper Street, which also previously featured pop stars Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke.
Little Simz became known for the independent release of the first three albums Tale of Trials + People (2015), Stillness In Wonderland (2016) and Gray Area (2019).
She later earned her her first Mercury Award nomination and won the award for Best Album at both the Ivor Novello Awards and the NME Awards.
She made her Glastonbury debut on the West Holts Stage in 2016 and performed on that stage again earlier this year.
She was named Best New Artist at the Brit Awards 2022 and was given her “big congratulations” by awards queen Brit Adele.
The musician took her mother on stage to accept the award before delivering her own powerful acceptance speech.
In it, she tells the audience that she is “living proof that if you work hard, no matter where you come from, whatever your background, whatever your race, you can do something extraordinary.”

Receiving the Mercury Prize on Tuesday, she said she was “so overwhelmed and grateful” and admitted that there was a time when she didn’t know if she would finish the record.
Addressing her shortlisted nominees, she added: “We’ve all made incredible albums, we’ve all changed people’s lives with music. my music and that’s the most important thing.”
Little Simz was also nominated for a range of awards at the UK Music Video Awards, which will take place later this year.
