With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Liverpool could be set for a busy few months as they look to strengthen their squad for the 2022/23 season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side could yet win a quadruple this season, having already lifted the Carabao Cup and also reached the Champions League final with a 5-2 aggregate win over Villarreal in the semis.

Liverpool meet Chelsea in the FA Cup final on May 14 and are also just a point behind Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title. The Reds have won 45 of their 58 competitive games so far this season.

However, they continue to aim to strengthen their already great team and have identified two Bundesliga stars as potential targets. First is the talented Hoffenheim defender David Raum, who has been linked with a move to Anfield following his impressive performances this season.

According to SportBILD, Liverpool is one of six clubs interested in the 24-year-old. The left-back, who has recorded three goals and 13 assists in 30 appearances since his free transfer from SpVgg Greuther Fürth last summer, is said to be fond of the Reds.

He came as a promising player but has turned out to be one of the newcomers of the season in the German top flight. The source says Raum is ‘likely’ to move to the Premier League this season and is valued at around €30m (£25m).

Many other unnamed high-profile outfits are said to be following Raum’s progress ahead of a potential transfer. Whether Liverpool would live up to his price remains to be seen as they are well equipped with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas at his position.

Raum isn’t the only Hoffenheim player Liverpool are interested in. SportBILD also claimed that the Reds are still interested in midfielder Christoph Baumgartner but have to compete with Manchester United for his signing.

Klopp is said to be “keeping a close eye” on the Austria international, who has made 92 senior appearances since making his first-team debut in 2019. It was reported last summer that Klopp was a “huge fan” of the playmaker.

The Red Devils were then added into the equation after he excelled at Euro 2020 with his national team, but neither could dissuade him from Hoffenheim. It would have taken a “mega offer” to sign him.

With Liverpool and United back in the mix for his signature this summer, Baumgartner is understood to have a €30m (£25m) release clause. He has been in excellent form this season, scoring six goals and providing an assist in 27 games.

But it’s his all-around game that has impressed potential suitors. Baumgartner is in possession of the ball, has the energy to walk up and down and can thread a pass through the eye of a needle.

It’s no surprise to hear that Liverpool’s interest in Baumgartner is “huge” and both clubs “have him on their list” while there have been specific requests from other quarters. The player is reportedly thinking about his future and whether the time is right to take on a new challenge.
