Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool ‘should have scored more’ in Benfica win

Liverpool have agreed their first summer deal in Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho, who will join the club at the end of the season.

The Reds were close to signing the teenager in the January transfer window but the move fell through in the last few hours. With the Fulham With Star’s contract due to expire at the end of the season, the Reds have now agreed a deal with the player, while a fee has been agreed with his club that could rise to £7.7million.

It comes like Manchester City Midfielder Ilkay Gündogan has vowed not to be “punished” by the Reds in Sunday’s crunch First League Clash at Etihad. And Fabinho’s fitness status has been revealed after he sustained a serious head injury on Tuesday Champions League Quarterfinals win in the first leg about Benfica.

Fabinho injury at the latest

Fabinho is expected to be fit to face Manchester City on Sunday despite sustaining a head injury during the Champions League clash with Benfica.

The Brazilian gave Reds boss Jurgen Klopp an almighty scare after going down after a headbutt with former Mancester City defender Nicolas Otamendi and required treatment. But Klopp has provided an update on the midfielder, saying he should be fit to face Pep Guardiola’s side at the weekend.

It means Liverpool face their tough Premier League clash on Sunday with a clean bill of health.

Gundogan’s vows

The Manchester City midfielder said his side will be “cautious” not to let Liverpool “punish” them for Sunday’s counterattack.

The Etihad clash could go a long way towards deciding which team will win the Premier League title this season, with just a point separating the teams ahead of the game. And Gundogan has spoken about the prospect of facing an in-form Liverpool ahead of the big game.

Speaking on Turkish TV, the midfielder described Liverpool as ‘one of the best teams in the world’ as he shared Man City’s ambition to win the clash.

Carvalho signing agreed

Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho is set to join Liverpool in the summer for a fee of £7.7million.

The Championship star will join Jurgen Klopp’s side on July 1 for an initial fee of £5million, which could rise by a further £2.7million with add-ons. The deal also includes a 20 per cent sales fee for Fulham and personal terms have also been agreed with the player until 2027.

It means the Reds have completed their first signing of the summer and can now consider further targets.
