Liverpool can close the gap to Premier League leaders Manchester City to just three points if they beat West Ham at Anfield on Saturday.
The Hammers are enjoying an impressive season and Jarrod Bowen’s performances in particular caught Jurgen Klopp’s attention; The Reds boss showed his admiration for the winger.
Klopp also revealed that his side will be without Joel Matip when David Moyes visits and that Thiago Alcantara is also likely to miss the clash.
Mohamed Salah will be confident of adding to his terrific goal tally on Saturday, the Egyptian having struck 27 times in all competitions this season.
Despite his spectacular form last year, he finished seventh at the 2021 Ballon d’Or awards and Salah has admitted his “shock” at his placement after being dubbed by many as a potential winner.
Here are Mirror football latest Liverpool headlines.
Klopp greets Bowen
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reached out to Jarrod Bowen for a second time by calling the West Ham forward “incredible”.
Bowen, 25, is enjoying a sensational 12-goal, 11-assist season for the Irons, who he joined in January 2020 on a £25m transfer from Hull City.
It’s no surprise the Englishman is turning heads and Klopp hinted at his striking talent ahead of time First League clash at the London Stadium in November.
“I like Bowen a lot,” said the German. “He came up from Hull and it didn’t take long to show what kind of player he can be in the Premier League. He’s made big strides.”
Klopp issues injury update
Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will be without Joel Matip and likely Thiago Alcantara for Saturday’s Premier League clash at home to West Ham.
Central defender Matip was rested for Wednesday FA Cup Home win against Norwich City but has since contracted an illness.
Thiago was sidelined from last Sunday’s Carabao Cup final with a hamstring injury he picked up during the warm-up and while it’s not considered too serious, he’s likely to sit out David Moyes’ men’s visit.
Klopp added that Curtis Jones, who was substituted at half-time against Norwich, and Naby Keita, who picked up an injury at Wembley, are also unsure about playing against the Hammers.
Salah on his position as Ballon d’or
Mo Salah admits he was “shocked” to finish seventh in the Ballon d’Or rankings after being touted as a possible winner.
The Golden Ball was presented in November and reclaimed by Lionel Messiwho now has seven.
Robert Lewandowski proved to be his closest rival, with many feeling the Pole deserved the single gong.
However, his sensational form for Liverpool was such that Salah was viewed as an outside bet of sorts.
