The Liverpool manager was right after a chaotic second leg in Spain on Tuesday night which saw the Reds come back from two goals down to claim victory. Luis Diaz, who came on for Diogo Jota at half-time, inspired the Reds to secure their place in the Champions League final on May 28 in Paris.
Goals from Fabinho, Diaz and Sadio Mane in 12 minutes of the second half broke the tie after Liverpool looked vulnerable in the first half. It came after the Reds received a pre-kick warning about Villarreal from former players Peter Crouch and Michael Owen.

Liverpool suffered a major first-half scare to secure their place in the Champions League final and keep their hopes of a historic quadruple alive.
The Reds fell behind in the third minute after a cross from Pervis Estupinan was met at the far post by Etienne Capoue, whose miss found Boulaye Dia to head into an unguarded net. Francis Coquelin then leveled the total minutes before half-time when he passed Trent Alexander-Arnold to float a header into the top corner of Capoue’s cross.
But the Reds were greatly improved after Luis Diaz’s half-time introduction, with Fabinho’s low, angled shot beating Geronimo Rulli at his near post. Diaz’s header down then leveled the score on the night before Sadio Mane Rulli smacked the ball 20 yards outside his area before rolling the ball into an open goal.
It was a game packed with talking points, including Liverpool’s bravery, Klopp’s stumbling block and Unai Emery’s euro genius finally coming to an end.
The Reds ignored the warning
Owen predicted ahead of the game at BT Sport that Villarreal would be ‘more direct and put the ball in the back’. Crouch echoed those words, predicting that “an early goal could change things”.
And they were quickly right as Boulaye Dia jabbed home just minutes after kick-off.
