An update on Mohamed Salah’s current injury situation was given during his overseas assignment with the Egyptian national team.
Fears were raised that the Reds ace had picked up a foot injury on international duty and the Egyptian FA have now responded to those claims. It comes as Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has identified the manager who would be “naturally suitable” to take over Anfield if Jurgen Klopp leaves his current job.
and mirror football took a look back at Liverpool’s takeover bid Manchester City Owner Sheikh Mansour’s cousin – and the rejection of his £2billion bid.
Here are Mirror football latest Liverpool headlines.
Takeover bid Liverpool
Liverpool came very close to being owned by a group of Middle Eastern investors five years ago.
Representatives of Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nehaya, part of the Abu Dhabi ruling family, reportedly met with Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group over a period of months in late 2017. The group are said to have offered £2billion for the Anfield outfit at the time as FSG were looking for new outside investment in the club.

Klopp’s “natural” successor
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes Steven Gerrard is the ‘natural fit’ to take over at Anfield if Jurgen Klopp eventually leaves.
The German is under contract with the club until 2024 but is expected to leave once his current contract expires. That would of course lead to a thorough search for his replacement, although Thompson believes the club should look no further than former captain Gerrard.
And Thompson believes the Aston Villa boss has already proven he has no problem attracting top players to the club.
Mohamed Salah update
Egypt have “no other injury problems” ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Senegal – seemingly allaying fears Mohamed Salah has suffered a repeat of his foot injury.
Salah was instrumental in Friday’s 1-0 first-leg win when his shot hit the bar and missed Senegalese defender Saliou Ciss. But he appeared to be suffering after that goal, leading fans to spark fears he was still suffering Foot injury sustained while playing for his club against Brighton two weeks ago.
But Reds fans can now be encouraged by the latest update as Salah prepares to face Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane in a repeat of the Africa Cup of Nations final from earlier this year.
