Topics of conversation in the city
In Sunday’s thrilling 2-2 draw at the Etihad, Liverpool twice came from behind to claim a fighting draw.
Dodging a tackle from outside the box, Kevin De Bruyne hit a fierce shot that was deflected off Joel Matip and hit the post. But less than 10 minutes later, Diogo Jota swept home after Trent Alexander-Arnold deftly clipped back a deep Andy Robertson cross.
Gabriel Jesus restored City’s lead in the 36th minute, deflecting a shot past Alisson and off the bar. Just 47 seconds of the second half had elapsed when Mohamed Salah equalized in Sadio Mane. It was a game full of talking points, including the quick start, notable omissions and Liverpool’s relentlessness.
Henderson and De Bruyne say the same thing
Liverpool and Manchester City captains both said the same thing after the two sides played a thrilling Premier League draw on Sunday.
The game had been billed as a potential title decider before kick-off and the result means City retain a narrow one-point lead in the table. Both Jordan Henderson and Kevin De Bruyne spoke at length after the game about how the title race looks now.
And they showed that both clubs appear to be taking the same approach for the remainder of the run-in until the end of the season.
Guardiola’s Liverpool message
Pep Guardiola has praised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after both sides drew on Sunday. The Spaniard said his counterpart “makes him a better manager”.
At the final whistle, the two coaches embraced warmly as they showed respect at the final score. And Guardiola also praised Klopp when he appeared in his post-match press conference afterwards.
But while the City manager had plenty of kind words for Klopp, he revealed they “don’t have dinner together” and that if they meet again his side will try to win FA Cup Semifinals next Saturday.
