A VILLAGE brewery has received six major awards at this year’s World Beer Awards, including the title of World’s Best Beer for the second time.
At Long Man Brewery, based in Litlington, near Seaford, three beers together won six awards in the Taste category, which showcased over 500 of the best beers and ales from around the world.
Old Man Premium Bitter (4.3%) won World’s Best Dark Mild Beer 2022, a Gold Winner (UK), Country Winner (UK) and Dark Beer Award.
The Long Blonde (4.1% – 3.8% cask) Ale has won Gold Winner (UK), Country Winner (UK) and Best English Style Pale Ale.
The Long Man Helles Lager (4.6%) won Bronze Winner (UK) and Lager Helles/Münchner.
The World Beer Awards, returning this year after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, were judged by a leading panel of industry experts. There were several phases of blind tasting before the jury crowned the winning beers.
Duncan Ellis, Co-Founder of Long Man Brewery, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that our Old Man Premium Bitter has been crowned World’s Best Beer for the second time. To achieve six awards at this year’s World Beer Awards is an incredible achievement and I am very proud. These awards are the well-deserved recognition our brewers deserve for all the hard work and attention to detail that they put into crafting our naturally superb beer.”
Adrian Tierney-Jones, Chairman of the World Beer Awards said: “Once again, the winners of the World Beer Awards present an exciting snapshot of some of the best beers being brewed around the world today. Of course I would like to congratulate the winners, but also thank the many jurors who have faced their task with diligence and great professionalism.”
This latest string of awards brings Long Man Brewery’s total to nearly 50 since it began brewing in 2012 in its converted flint barn in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The Old Man Premium Bitter is the brewery’s most awarded beer with 16 individual awards, including World’s Best Beer in 2017 and 2022.

Celebrating 10 years of brewing in 2022, Long Man Brewery is based in a converted flint barn at Church Farm in Litlington. Its name was inspired by the famous Long Man of Wilmington, an imposing figure carved into the chalk hills and located within the confines of the farm itself.
Founded in 2012 by Steve Lees and Duncan Ellis, the two men set out to create a “naturally excellent beer”.
