Longtime BBC presenters lose main presenter roles amid channel merger

Longtime BBC broadcasters Martine Croxall, Jane Hill and Ben Brown will lose their roles as main presenters when the corporation launches its new news channel.
The BBC is combining its national and international channels to create a single 24-hour TV service as part of a new digital-first strategy, resulting in job losses.
On Thursday, it was announced that the main line-up of the channel, known as BBC News, will include Matthew Amroliwala, Christian Fraser, Yalda Hakim, Lucy Hockings and Maryam Moshiri.

“The editorial leadership, talent, knowledge and flair of this team make them ideal hosts to bring trusted BBC journalism to everyone in the UK. UK and globally, and guide audiences through the big stories as they explore.”
US news agency Deadline reports that BBC news chief Jess Brammar has phoned presenters to tell them about the changes.
Other presenters have voluntarily quit during the merger, with Joanna Gosling, David Eades and Tim Willcox among those leaving the company.
