Longtime Hove councilor dies aged 79

TRIBUTE was paid to a longtime Council member who passed away after a short illness.

Garry Peltzer Dunn died yesterday in hospital surrounded by his family at the age of 79.

He was a Hove councilor for 50 years and stood as a Conservative candidate in 15 consecutive local elections between 1971 and 2019, first for Hove Borough Council and later for Brighton and Hove City Council.

He was also Chairman of Hove Borough Council between 1987 and 1991 and was Mayor of the city in 2008.

A spokesman for the Brighton and Hove Conservative group said Cllr Peltzer Dunn was “well respected by his peers and very well liked”.

He said: “His loss will be felt by the many people who have come to know him across the city.

“He was known as a true gentleman to all who met him.

“Everyone’s thoughts are with Garry’s family at this time.”
