The ex-girlfriend of billionaire Lord Ashcroft’s son has claimed she was being framed after she shot dead a police chief in tropical paradise Belize.
Jasmine Hartin, a 33-year-old socialite, insists her boyfriend Supt Henry Jemmott died in a tragic accident while they were enjoying a late night drink on a jetty in May last year.
In a clip from her TalkTV interview with Piers Morgan, which airs today, the Canadian claims the gun may have been fired because it was rusty.
“I don’t remember ever touching the trigger of the gun, but I caught it when it went off,” she said.

“I tried to get the clip out and it just went off.”
She added that when a gun malfunctions, she’s been told that sometimes it “might go off if it malfunctions.”
Describing the fateful evening, Hartin said the pair enjoyed a drink alone after her ex Andrew Ashcroft, who was friends with Jemmott, dropped out at the last minute.
When they decided to go out on the dock together and sit on the dock, Jemmott went to get his gun and then asked Hartin to practice unloading and reloading, thinking she “needed protection”.

“I’ve heard a lot of different stories. I heard I executed him for attempted rape and I defended myself. I heard I lured him there and that it was Andrew who shot him,” she said.
“The truth is none of that. he was my friend He didn’t attack me.”
She added that the gun was triggered when he was sitting “a foot or two” away from her.
“It was a horrible night that changed everyone’s lives. I’ll have to live with that for the rest of my life,” she said.

Grilled by Morgan over rumors that she was a regular cocaine user and heavy drinker at the time, Hartin – who is embroiled in a custody battle with her ex – described her as “just not true.”
“That would help [the custody case] in many ways when I’m perceived as this wild cocaine addicted party girl,” she said.
“I’m definitely not a murderer and I’m being framed. It’s me. It really is me.”
Hartin, a former dental assistant, grew up in Canada and moved to Belize in 2014, where she met Andrew.

The couple became parents to twins in 2017 but never married. But in May 2021, they lived separate lives and slept separately.
Hartin was charged with involuntary manslaughter, a crime punishable by a maximum of nine months in prison or a roughly $10,000 fine in Belize.
In a statement to local media last week, Andrew said he was given legal custody of the couple’s two children by a judge in Belize and they have since been taken out of the country.
It is understood that Hartin’s case is unlikely to go to court for some time.
