Lorent Tolaj skipper Brighton on the Community Shield win


Albion’s youngsters kept their composure at the hot spot to win a penalty shootout last night.

A very young Under-21 side, led by Lorent Tolaj, beat Littlehampton 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes to lift the Sussex Community Shield at Culver Road.

They converted four out of four penalties and saw Killian Cahill make a nice save.

Victory appeared to be heading for the young Seagulls in regulation time as Tolaj added to his tally of goals late on.

But an outside free-kick from Dion Jarvis went straight into goal to give the Golds an injury-time equaliser.

The southern combined champions were the stronger side for 45 minutes and deservedly took the lead when Marshall Ball headed home emphatically from a corner.

Albion started to put their football together after the break and Billie Clark scored the equaliser.

Clark later shot wide when he went clean.

But after a very clever set piece Benicio sent Baker-Boaitey Tolaj on goal in the 89th minute.

Both players then converted from the point, as did Clark and sub Jake Gee.

Joe Benn, Lucas Pattenden and Scott Faber scored three times to give Littlehampton the lead.

But Cahill then dove to the right to save Jamie Carroll’s fourth penalty.

George Gaskin fired his fifth attempt over the bar.
