Lorraine Kelly says Prime Minister Boris Johnson has invited the following concert

Lorraine Kelly will be watching daytime television about what the Queen is to the royal family. Whatever people think of the chaos, ego conflicts, and arguments of those around them, both can be reliant on a stable, comfortable presence – which almost everyone enjoys.

Of course, Lorraine’s three-decade reign rests solely on the ITV sofa, not the throne. And the thorn in her side is Piers Morgan – not some troublesome prince.

But the two also have other things in common – Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tried to offend both of them.

Now, after the question “Who is Lorraine?” After wrapping up her disastrous Susanna Reid interview last month, Lorraine threw the gauntlet at the annoyed Prime Minister.

The Queen of Sofas has offered to let him be in the audience whenever he feels like it – if he’s brave enough to accept.

“I’ve met him a few times – but obviously I don’t make much of an impression,” Lorraine laughs. “But, absolutely, he can come see my show whenever he likes. We asked him. But he has not accepted our invitation so far.

“He was probably the first prime minister I didn’t interview. David Cameron has come a few times and Theresa May, and the leaders of the opposition, many times.

“It was weird. It seemed a bit odd. But he was hiding in the fridge when Piers tried to talk to him. So maybe he didn’t want to.”

Boris Johnson doesn’t know who she is

Could it be that he was too scared? “Well, he will be now!” Lorraine laughed, alluding to Johnson’s pretense.

His mistake came when Susanna made the usual Good Morning Britain handover link to Lorraine’s show, after interviewing the slightly confused Prime Minister about Partygate.

And while Lorraine may laugh derisively, she cannot laugh at the scandal.

“The whole thing was embarrassing, absolutely terrifying,” she said. “I don’t think anyone will ever forget the image of the Queen grieving with her husband while the parties were taking place at Number 10. It’s happened to grieving people across the country.

“The saddest thing is that we have lost faith in politics in general.”

For a second, it seemed like Johnson should worry less about him on her sofa and more about her on his chair.

But the 62-year-old mother has no political aspirations, unlike former congressman Esther McVey.

“I don’t think I’ll be good at it,” she laughs. “I don’t want to follow the party line. I’d better be the voice outside shouting ‘Oi!’

Lorraine has interviewed PMs before

A bit like an old colleague then.

So has she seen Piers Morgan’s new Uncensored Show?

Cue avoids the politician type: “I’ve seen, I’ve seen.. a lot of people from here are working on it. Trouble was it was 8pm. I usually do my homework, but it will find its place. ”

Still, she has a soft spot for former GMB host Piers – even if he told her because of it.

“It’s extremely quiet without Mr. Piers Morgan,” she laughed. “I know he is very polarizing and makes me angry sometimes but he is a very, very loyal person and if you have a problem he will help you.

“He hates it when you tell people he’s really nice. ‘It’s not good for my brand, stop!’ he will say. “

Speaking of facing the tough times, Lorraine recently conquered one of her biggest fears.

She was trampled after falling off her horse in 2012 and fortunately survived.

Last month, she got back into the saddle with the help of 14-time Paralympic Gold medalist Sir Lee Pearson. But that’s a one-time only deal.

“It feels like I’ve done something special. She said the fear was gone. “But I won’t do it again. After [a close shave]you realize that ‘I’m not invincible’. ”

Another fear that struck Lorraine was not one she could face: “I was really scared of losing myself to dementia, because my grandmother had it.

“They weren’t too bad, but I’ve watched friends gradually lose themselves or someone they love. I don’t want to lose anyone I love little by little and I certainly wouldn’t want that for myself.

“We need more money for research. And I feel very passionate that we have to have a mature conversation about people who want to get out properly, whether they are suffering from that illness or another debilitating illness.

“We should give people the choice, the choice to have a good death, if there is such a thing, on their own terms.” For the cheerful-looking Lorraine, it was an unexpected dark turn.

But day by day, she focuses on a much lighter goal – changing her body weight. She went up two dress sizes and while she’s only 14 years old, due to her petite body, feels “slow”.

She became an ambassador for WW, formerly WeightWatchers, and subscribed to its app, which offers tailored workouts, food recommendations, and support.

In four months, she’s down to a size 10 and – without giving up any food – is back in her favorite dresses. “One was too tight to pass my ass,” she laughs.

“It’s not a diet. Those are healthy choices. You don’t feel like you’re on some horrible draconian regimen, like those stupid diets of the 80s and 90s – the cabbage soup diet, the maple syrup diet. wind. We have to eat like humans and enjoy ourselves. “

Lorraine certainly enjoyed it.

She enjoys quality time away from the limelight with her husband of 30 years, videographer Steve, and has no plans to retire.

She is emotional as she becomes one of many older actresses, proving that ageism on television is a thing of the past.

“It got better,” she said. “You’ve got Janet Street-Porter, Gloria Hunniford, Angela Rippon. We have accumulated experience and wisdom and that is appreciated. “

One thing she won’t do is go on shows like Seriously, I’m a Celebrity or Dancing on Ice. “I get asked all the time and people think of me so well,” she said. “But I can’t dance, I can’t sing and would rather eat my own bottom.”

Boris Johnson is probably thinking something similar after opening
invitation to her show – however, with lovable Lorraine, they won’t be kangaroo pieces for him to eat, just some well-deserved humble pie.
