Lost episodes of The Morecambe And Wise Show are released
A collection of previously lost episodes of The Morecambe And Wise Show is released on DVD for the first time.
Originally aired on BBC Two in 1968, the first season of the comedy duo’s show was never archived and all eight episodes were scrapped in the 1970s to make room in the BBC’s archives.
After years of archival research and restoration, film copies of four of the eight episodes were found, and sound recordings of the other four were also found.

All eight episodes are now being released on DVD along with a previously lost October 1970 one-off Morecambe And Wise special.
They have all undergone an extensive sound and visual restoration to restore all but one of the episodes to their original color for the first time since they aired in 1968, according to the BBC.
The first episode of Morecambe And Wise recorded for the BBC previously only survived as a badly deteriorated film print, which was rediscovered in a film vault in West Africa.
As part of a seven-year restoration project by the BBC and Queen Mary University in London, the film was x-ray scanned to restore the images trapped in the dilapidated film.
Titled Morecambe And Wise: The Lost Tapes, the collection will also include never-before-seen special features including a BBC Two trailer and interviews from the 1960s.
It will also include a raw 1972 studio recording, deleted scenes from the first series, and original scripts and production notes.

The DVD release of Morecambe and Wise: The Lost Tapes will be available on June 6th and is available to pre-order now.
To coincide with the DVD release, there will be a special screening with the British Film Institute on May 21st at the National Film Theater in Southbank, London.
