I know you don’t come to the beauty site to read about the cost of living crisis, but man, it just seems like things are getting more expensive while the money in our bank accounts stays the same. Budget is tight and today’s hottest beauty tool will cost you more than €500. Yes, as I write here, the Dyson Airwrap is excellent, but if you simply don’t have half a thousand dollars to spend, there are other ways to have beautiful hair. Today I want to talk about hairdressing tools under €50.
First, a disclaimer. All in all, expensive hair tools are the result of a lot of research on how to develop the most effective styling while causing the least damage. Budget tools tend to not care about the harmful effects of heat, so you will most likely have to compromise in this regard.
Make sure you’re using a heat protectant whenever you use heat on your hair, especially if your tool operates at high temperatures. You don’t need to spend a lot of money for this. L’Oreal Elvive’s Dream Longs Heat Slayer Spray (€6.79 past start up.ie) is solid, as is TreSemmé’s Head Defense Styling Spray (€7.09 past tesco.ie). Now – on the tools!
When mermaid hair was in vogue, I picked up one Mark Hill Pick ‘N’ Mix Processing (€23.99 last start up.ie) and wavering mermaid (€32.99 for the package that includes the handle and attachment via start up.ie) to get in on the action. This smart tool has separate sections. A wide variety of accessories are available from thick grips to thin grips of different lengths and a number of wands in different shapes. Each accessory costs around €20-€25 and can be fitted to the power handle to achieve any look you desire. The interchangeable nature of this tool means it will take up less space in your home and means you can achieve any style you love. It is also ideal for those who like to experiment with different styles.

If you’re after a voluminous hairstyle, look no further Revlon One-Step Dryer and Volumiser (€49.95 past mccauley.ie). When it comes to styling my hair with ease, I prefer this to Airwrap (again, though, you can factor in heat damage). It’s easy to handle and to achieve real ball volume.
For extra volume and bounce, wrap your hair with a Velcro roller, like Easilocks Anti-static large thermal hair roller (€27.99 last asos.com) to cool after partial drying. It’s the cooling bit stamped in style.
If you are after straight, shiny hair then you will need a classic straightener. The Hair straightener Remington Ceramic Slim 230 (€29.99 last did.ie) will do the job quickly and easily. This guy will allow you to control the temperature, which means you can minimize damage if you know your hair reacts to lower temperatures (Honestly, I always use 230C max). Whatever temperature you choose, it will get there in 15 seconds or less, meaning you don’t have to wait. As with all straighteners, you can use this to curl your hair if you want. It doesn’t have any fancy bells and whistles but totally delivers.
The truth is, despite the glamor and innovation of Airwrap, people had beautiful hair before it existed. If you can’t stretch it, the tools above will help you get the look of your dreams.
Vanessa and Lisa Creaven continue to get stronger and stronger. Their latest product launch is Diamond PAP+ teeth whitening powder (€29.95 past spotlightoralcare.com), one – you guessed it – teeth whitening powder. The powder is designed to be used twice a day while brushing. After applying toothpaste to your toothbrush, dip it in the powder and brush as you normally would. PAP is a synthetic organic peroxy acid that is mainly used as a bleaching activator and is therefore useful in whitening teeth. This, along with the formula’s patented Diamond Powder, works to remove stains and provide an overall whiter appearance.
Nuxe known all over the world for products that smell great and are very effective. Prodigy Huile (€26.90 past nuxe.com) is one of the brand’s most popular products, as it can be used on the face, body, or hair to soften and nourish. The sparkling version also adds illumination through ultra-fine pearl mineral particles. A few sprays of this product on the body leave skin looking nourished and hydrated, with a sleek, supermodel-like finish. However, you won’t be greasy thanks to the dry oil formula.
… What’s new?
Tom Ford’s Soleil Neige Shimmering Body Oil (€55 through brownthomas.com) has been around for a few years, but I think it still needs to be mentioned here depending on the time of year. Soleil Neige is a fragrance developed to evoke the feeling of stepping out of fresh snow. It’s a blend of citrus and floral, but not overpowering. It smells like a winter dream and is perfect for the party season as it will leave your skin sparkling without the harsh shimmer effect, and at the same time you will have a pleasant fragrance. This is the kind of product that will bring you joy every time you use it and make you feel ready for any special occasion.
