Louise McSharry: From Aldi’s mascara to affordable Vitamin C, here are my favorite cheap beauty products

As you know, I love a luxury product. I love walking into a fancy store and buying them. I like their weight, nice packaging and often the products themselves. However, there is nothing like a bargain. As an Irishman, I think a bargaining appreciation is already formed in us.
There’s nothing an Irishman loves more than telling you from start to finish how much they adore something when it’s at its original price but wait it out and keep an eye on the price drop then decide to drop it. 20% price is still too much to pay, before finally grabbing items for half price.
Our bargain rating crosses every category, from food to clothing and of course beauty. Focus on that today with great products available for less than €20.
Aldi’s beauty services have become very heavy lately. It doesn’t take an expert to realize that their products are heavily inspired by the beauty items of major brands. It’s a strategy I’m skeptical of, but that doesn’t mean the products aren’t good.

Lacura Girl Gone Bad mascara (€6.99 via Aldi store)
I recently picked up a (1) Lacura Girl Gone Bad Mascara (6.99€ via Aldi shops) along with my free range chicken and toffee popcorn, and I was really impressed with it. I’m picky when it comes to mascara. I wanted it to be thick from the first coat, buildable and black, and this is all of that. Somehow, it stays intact after an hour of crying at a therapy appointment, and is another example of why I’m not skinny.k mascara is something you need to spend a lot of money on.
Antioxidants are important for skin health because they fight damage caused by pollutants created within and from the environment. Vitamin C is a very effective way to include antioxidants in your skin care routine.

The Inkey List 15% Vitamin C and EGF Serum (€14.99 via theinkeylist.com)
(2) The Inkey List 15% Vitamin C and EGF Serum (€14.99 last theinkeylist.com) is light yet powerful and will do all the work your Vitamin C needs to do along with the additional work of EGF, helping to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin.
To me, it seems like not so long ago, eyebrows were something that only existed on our faces and were plucked from time to time. We now have the brow process, which includes multiple products and multiple steps. Happily, my brow routine is based on only two products with the super price tag.

Andrew Fitzimons Repair Serum for Damaged Hair (€17.99 via boots.ie)
Last week, at a fancy shoot, I watched intently as the hairstylist took the products out of her bag (I live to ask beauticians what they use), and immediately glad to see Andrew Fitzsimons products (from €11.99 to €17.99 through start up.ie) fill the counter.
We chat with enthusiasm about how amazing the Irish hairstylist’s products are and how they’ve become a top choice for both of us, both personally and professionally . The entire range is excellent and covers most hair types and textures. But if your hair is in a bad way, you’ll love (5) Serum for damaged hair (€17.99 last start up.ie) makes a noticeable difference right from the first use.

Clarin’s Lip Comfort Oils (€22.50 via clarins.ie)
Clarins Lip Oil (€22.50 past clarins.ie) is a dream. They provide shine, comfort and moisture, and come in a variety of colors so you can add a little zhoosh to your face if you feel the need (my favorite is the cherry, subdued red). These lip oils contain a blend of botanical oils, including rosehip, hazelnut and jojoba, that work together to moisturize and beautify the lips. I have one of these in almost every handbag because they are so easy to hit without a mirror and always soothe my lips if they feel dry without feeling sticky or greasy. They also work well as a mask. Just apply before bed and you’ll wake up with soft, nourished lips.

Nuxe Reve De Miel Honey Lip Care Oil (€14.50 via lirpharmacy.com)
Let’s be honest, I was intrigued by Nuxe Reve De Miel Honey Lip Oil (€14.50 past lirpharmacy.com) because of the packaging. The lid is like a honey spoon! However, a product can’t just exist on the packaging, so it’s a relief to see that what’s inside the lovely tube is just as amazing. When you think of lip balm, you probably think of a watery liquid that adds shine, not nourishment – that’s not the case here. This ‘oil’ is light, but it’s wonderfully moisturizing thanks to the nourishing qualities of lavender honey from Provence, Omegas 3 and 6 and organic camellia oil.
Lost in translation
Glycation is an internal process that can negatively impact skin firmness. This process occurs when excess glucose in the skin fibers leads to sugar molecules sticking to the collagen and elastin proteins, making them unable to keep the skin soft and firm. Products with antioxidants like Vitamin C are effective in reducing the effects of this natural chemical reaction.
