It’s been the source of real sadness in my life that I don’t have much time left to prepare for a night out. There’s a girl I follow on TikTok who regularly starts her process around 2 p.m. for leaving the house six hours later, and while that might seem crazy to some you, but it makes me nostalgic.
remember the days when getting ready was as exciting as the evening itself. I remember going to a friend’s house with makeup and hair done, ready to gossip, laugh and sing along to whatever ‘best song’ we had heard at the time. Even if I prepare alone, the process will take hours, the result of careful calculation. My own hair will be allotted 90 minutes on some nights. These days, I’m lucky to have half an hour for the whole process, so I’ve had to streamline things dramatically.
However, speeding up the process doesn’t mean I want to compromise on results. I want to feel as comfortable walking out the door as if I had hours to take care of my appearance. To me, that meant eye makeup took just five minutes, but it seems like they’ve taken a century. My go-to in these situations is a halo eye, which is basically a smoky eye with a shimmer in the middle of the eyelid. I believe anyone can achieve this look — all you need is a matte shadow and a little shimmer with complementary tones.
Most eyeshadow palettes will include a combination of matte and shimmer shades, so you probably already have stock. If you don’t like and like to buy yourself something nice, Kaleidos Futurismeyeshadow palette absolutely beautiful and includes impressive shimmer effects (€22.08 past kaleidosmakeup.com).

Start by applying a darker shade over the lid, stopping at the crease and below the lower lash line, including around the inner corner of the eye. Use a small brush, like Rebeluna L111 Luxe shade generator (€10 past Rebeluna.com) to apply and then a clean, larger blending brush, like Blender Rebeluna L110 Luxe (€10 past Rebeluna.com) to blend edges.

If you’re having trouble diffusing the color, a little translucent powder on a brush will help. Next, use your fingers to apply the shimmer to the center of the cap. You’ll always get better results from finger glitter shadows due to their almost creamy texture. The brush will not absorb much product and it will be difficult to get the product on the cap.

NYX Glitter Primer, €9.20, cult.com
If you don’t want or can’t, a little NYX Glitter Primer (€9.20 past Cultbeauty.com) on the lid will help to use the brush, just keep it in the center of the cap. I also like to apply a bit of shimmer to the center of my lower lashes for symmetry, but that’s not necessary. Use a brush to diffuse the edges of the shimmer, using small, short strokes so you don’t get sparkles all over the cap. Don’t get me wrong, that would be nice too, but you’ll lose the striking contrast of the halo effect.
Anytime you use shadows, there’s a risk of ‘powder’ or shadows falling on the rest of your face as you apply. To avoid this, start with your eye makeup so you can clear the dust without affecting the rest of your face, or tap the brush thoroughly before applying eyeshadow to reduce the chances of the powder speckling on your cheeks. .

L’Oréal Baby Shampoo, €4.10, mccabespharmacy.com
Our indoor bath time is always met with anxiety from adults. The kids love playtime and enjoy the water, as long as the water isn’t too old for them. That means washing is almost never complete without a fight. There are so many great baby shampoos on the market, and it’s certain that having the right color and smell, along with a fun-looking bottle design, can make a real difference when it comes to making shampoo time more appealing.
L’Oréal Kids shampoo (€4.10 through mccabespharmacy.com) have long been a staple in our home, and I really remember them being a bathroom essential when my sisters and I were little 20 years ago. They smell great, detangle well and have a ‘tear-free’ formula so won’t cause problems if instilled in young children’s eyes. It also comes in brightly colored packaging that makes the whole process feel a little more fun.
We’ve proven that brightly colored packaging is helpful when persuading your child to cooperate with shampooing, but nothing can prepare me for how powerful a presence is. frozen‘s Elsa and Olaf can be on a shampoo bottle. Garnier‘SNew 2 in 1 shampoo & detangler for kids (€6.99 over start up.ie) includes a bunch of popular cartoon characters, from Simba to Ariel. This formula has been tested under pediatrician and ophthalmologist control, which means it does not irritate children’s skin and eyes.
