When I started spending money on makeup, it was all about big international brands. Aside from the perfume I was wearing (Inis), I don’t recall a single Irish brand penetrating my consciousness. Fast forward 20 years and the landscape has changed dramatically. These days many Irish beauty brands are at the top of people’s list of favorite products. Just in case you haven’t gotten on the train yet, I thought I’d recommend a few of the ones I think stand out.
Kincare is certainly an area where Irish brands are thriving. Jennifer Rock has long been established as one of Ireland’s leading experts, so it’s no surprise that her skincare brand, Skinredients, is at the forefront. The range is consistently good, however Skin protection SPF 50 (52€ about arnotts.ie) is an exceptional product. It offers high protection against UVA and UVB rays and lightly hydrates the skin, leaving it looking dewy and even (thanks to the peach tint).
Sonia Deasys Pound mortar Skincare range offers beautifully packaged and highly effective products based on the ethos of combining “high performance active ingredients with nourishing natural extracts”. those of the brand Pure hyaluron serum (43€ about meagherspharmacy.ie) is super moisturizing and anti-aging as it draws moisture to the surface, resulting in plumper, hydrated skin.
Absolute cleansing oil from Kinvara Skincare (€24.95 over kinvaraskincare.com) does a brilliant job of removing makeup and dirt from your face at the end of the day. Simply rub it over your face to loosen anything that needs to be removed, then remove with a hot washcloth.
When it comes to makeup, there’s no doubt that Aimee Connolly is it Shaped Brand is something of a phenomenon. The makeup artist has just opened a shop on Grafton Street and her products are a must-read in Irish makeup bags and on the beauty pages of magazines across the UK. The reason is simple: the products are excellent. Then you probably already know that. In fact, you probably already own them. Just in case you don’t, I sincerely do
recommend the brand’s complexion products. second skin (27€ about cloud10beauty.com) is a buildable foundation with medium coverage that is suitable for all skin types of all ages.

tint and shine (25 € per millies.ie) is a combination of tinted moisturizer and SPF that provides an even and radiant finish. brighten concealer (€16 per sculptedbyaimee.com) is as good as any other award-winning formula I’ve tried. Moisturizing and comfortable to wear, it covers everything you need and holds up great.
Beauty influencers’ makeup brands sometimes get a bad rap, but our own Keilidh Cashell and Aideen Kate have released products that work brilliantly.
cash beauties Color trip palette (€44.95 over kashbeauty.com) features 20 highly pigmented eyeshadows and 10 water-activated liners that cover the entire color spectrum. I could just own this palette and be happy.
True Beauty by Aideen Kate True Essentials Face Palette (€39.99 over mccauley.ie) has become indispensable to my makeup process. It contains cream and powder blushes and bronzers making it perfect for layering and the colors are excellent.
For the body, Green Angel Algae Body Smoother (39€ about greenangel.com) are great for scrubbing off dead skin or leftover fake tan while moisturizing the skin with essential oils. Not surprisingly, we’re also great in the wrong tan, with Nude from Vogue, BiaBelle and SoSu Dripping Gold exceeded all expectations. We may be a tiny country, but we clearly know our stuff.
Natural deodorants are becoming increasingly popular as people become more conscious of what they put in and on their bodies. vico is a Dublin-based company that sells deodorants in three fragrances: Lavender, Lemongrass and Orange Blossom (€12.99 over vcodeo.com). The product is made exclusively from natural ingredients and sustainably packaged in plastic-free tubes. Cruelty-free and vegan, this is a great option for those who want to avoid chemical ingredients.
The organic pharmacy has spent the last two decades developing formulas that combine “nature and care” resulting in organic, pharmaceutical-grade skincare. Like all branded vitamin C products Stabilized vitamin C serum (65 € about thecleanbeautyedit.com) aims to brighten the complexion and reduce pigmentation, as well as boost collagen production and add moisture. “Stabilized” means the vitamin C is in a less potent form – ideal for sensitive skin. But don’t worry, consistent use of even very low levels of vitamin C has been shown to show results.
… Something new
voya is a family owned brand established in the west of Ireland in 2006. Their products are all luxurious and organic, backed by science. Voya recently got one Antioxidant serum with vitamin C (75 € about voya.com) after years of testing and rigorous feedback, according to a member of the team I recently met!
