Louise Thompson hails NHS nurses as ‘champions’ amid national strike action

Louise Thompson has praised the NHS nurses who looked after her during her previous hospital visits as “champions” amid their nationwide strike action.

The Made In Chelsea star, 32, said she had “very mixed feelings” about the UK’s health system, but said the Government needed to take action to improve conditions for healthcare workers.

It comes after nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland went on strike during the Royal College of Nursing’s (RCN) first national action on Thursday.

RCN leader Pat Cullen warned that the nurses’ actions would escalate unless ministers were willing to come to the negotiating table in a dispute over pay and conditions.

Thompson has been plagued with physical and mental health issues since a traumatic incident during childbirth in late 2021.

“Some people have messaged me asking if I was going to speak out about today’s nurses strike. Honestly, I have very mixed feelings about our entire healthcare system,” she said in a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday.

“I have some very positive things to say and some very negative things (which I have and which I will continue to keep to myself).

“They are the nurses I met when I moved down to the high dependency unit.

“They took really good care of me, they kept me up to date, tried to give me as much information as possible and they even had to do some grim work that they had never done before…really… great.”

She continued: “The things I’ve seen, the number of people going in and out every day and the amount of stress they’re under is amazing.

“Without good nursing staff, hospitals will collapse. Gov better do something about it.⁣”

The TV personality was previously diagnosed with PTSD and has had numerous health problems since suffering complications during the birth of her son Leo-Hunter.
