Theo Campbell is preparing to fight in the boxing ring for the first time – but will face a unique challenge as he battles an eye injury.
Before Love Island star will debut after Martyn Ford’s big clash with ‘Iran Hulk’, scheduled for April 2.
Campbell suffered an eye injury that caused him to lose an eye after an accident while on vacation in Ibiza.
And before his boxing debut, Campbell explained how just seeing one eye didn’t get him out of the way during construction and that he plans to venture on exhibition level.
“Yeah, that’s going to be the biggest thing I’ve got to get over,” Campbell said Mirror Fighting. “Only being able to see clearly in one eye is definitely a disadvantage.
“If I was going to play professionally I probably wouldn’t, but fighting someone at exhibition level with someone with the same experience as me, I’m willing to take the risk.
“The main problem I’ve noticed is judging accuracy when trying to hit pads and materials, whereas when you have two eyes your judgment is really good. Another thing I’ve noticed is that I used to be a good table tennis player.
“Since I can’t see with my eyes, I’ve been terrible at things like that so that’s the hardest part. But it’s been a challenge and hopefully I can inspire a lot of people if they have something against them or have a disability, to realize that they can do it even if they have things against them.
“Hopefully it inspires people because I’ve received a lot of people with eye injuries, but even with one leg or one foot you can achieve great things and I hope That’s what I can do.”
Campbell rose to fame during her time on the dating reality TV series Love Island and has since amassed more than 300,000 followers on social media.
The British star is already qualified to compete with Team GB and has a wealth of experience in athletics at the domestic level.
His popularity seems to reduce his chances of becoming an Olympic athlete outright, and it’s unlikely he’ll ever return to athletics.
However, Campbell has revealed that his future could continue to fight as he also pursues a future in MMA after signing a previous contract.
“Part of the reason I signed up to do this fight is because I’m doing an MMA fight in June,” Campbell continued. “That was my first suggestion and I think yes MMA could be a little bit easier in terms of grappling and easier vision.

“The schedule for that was pushed back when I was also offered this job and I chose to do it because I thought I could be better at it anyway. It’s time for me to do this. and try to gain boxing skills.
“Hope everything goes well in my eyes, this is a great opportunity and experience from which I can learn a lot. Hopefully if it goes well it can be a stepping stone to the MMA fight if I win.
“As for the other games after that I have to wait and see, I’ll have to see how these two do first and if I like it then maybe but I have to try and see the results.”
Campbell has previous Muay-Thai training experience having attended two training camps in the country and one overseas to improve her skills.
He sees a future in MMA but hopes to progress in the boxing ring first as he awaits his opponent’s official confirmation.
Several social media stars will also appear on the card, including Love Island contestants Jack Fincham and AJ Bunker.
The 30-year-old excited about the prospect of participating in the event urged fans to see the full card including the fascinating sight of the main event.
“Hopefully the fans will get to see some knockouts and that’s my goal,” Campbell concluded. “Whoever I go with me, I have three laps to do it and that’s the reason for the short laps.
“There’s definitely going to be some great matches and the whole event will be well worth attending including the celebrities. It’s going to be a great event with a lot of people that they’ll recognise.
“The main event is amazing and it will be a sight to see the two giants go there, if I wasn’t in I would certainly have come along to see.”
