Love Island: Tasha reveals she was born deaf

According to her father, Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri has a superpower that can give her an advantage in the mansion.

Blonde beauty Tasha, 23, born deaf, and dad Tarek, 55, believe her excellent lip reading and body language detection in private conversations can be of great help for her when participating in the program.

Talking about his daughter’s cochlear implant, Tarek said Sun : “Her assistance is very directional. It has a microphone in the front. So if people are talking in the back at a long distance, she probably won’t pick it up. But in between. That, lip reading and body language, she’s very good at.”

And while it will certainly come in handy in the coming weeks, Tarek confesses that she’s also been using her “superpowers” at home – especially in pub quizzes.

He revealed she was brilliant because she was able to confirm the other teams’ answers even while they were whispering.

Speaking of her ability to read lips, Tarek says it can help her inspire others to realize their disability or an insecurity that doesn’t stand in the way of their passions or dreams.

He’s candid about how he was initially worried about his daughter being trolled on social media while on the show, but he says he’s super proud of her and the way she is. Treat yourself in the mansion.

Tasha was originally partnered with Andrew Le Page and is still paired with him today.

She went public about being deaf with her contestants during the early stages of this year’s Love Island and dragged them all to the fire pit to make the announcement and they were all very supportive.

She previously told MailOnline that she has undergone years of speech therapy and hearing rehabilitation to help her communicate.

Tasha told the publication ahead of the show’s premiere: “I wasn’t always confident in my life, I’ve learned this is who I am and it’s not a negative or something I hate it. Now I love it. I’m really happy about it.”

Tasha is the first deaf contestant in the series that dates and follows the appearance of EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis in serious dance.

And Tasha was full of praise for the way Rose represented the deaf community on the show, calling it a “beautiful message.”
