Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu has a surprising Irish connection.
The 27-year-old was crowned the winner of the hit ITV dating show with partner Davide Sanclimenti on Monday night and viewers have had a blast watching her on their screens for the past two months.
Gemma Owen and Luca Bish took second place, followed by Dublin’s Dami Hope and his partner Indiyah Polack, while Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page took fourth place.
But it turns out Dami wasn’t the only finalist to fly the flag for Ireland this year, as Ekin-Su once represented the country in a beauty pageant.
Photos from her portfolio show the Love Island winner, who is half Turkish and competed as Miss Ireland at Miss Asia Pacific World 2011 when she was just 18.
Calling herself Susie “Su” Hayzel at the time, she strutted down the runway dressed as a leprechaun before donning a white bikini – perhaps a tryout for her stint on Love Island.
On the profile, Ekin-Su noted that she “grew up in London but moved to Loughton (Essex) when I was 10”.
She added: “Passionate about my career, I am an intelligent, eager and highly creative individual who is inspired by success and passionate about learning and personal development.
“I am inspired by acting, dance and music which allow me to demonstrate and nurture the creative, emotional and confident nature of my personality.

“I believe it is imperative to be positive and proactive in both my personal and professional life.”
Ekin-Su listed some of her achievements in her portfolio, including singing for “many charities,” auditioning for The X Factor, and taking part in several musical productions such as West Side Story and High School Musical, where she nabbed the lead roles in both .
She also said that some of her favorite things to do were “participating in global beauty pageants,” traveling “to many places in Asia as a runway model,” “shooting glamor models,” and appearing in music videos.
“I’ve never acted in a film, but in my dream [is] to achieve that. No matter what role I get, I will do my best,” she wrote, implying that Davide may have hit on something when he called her a “liar” and an “actress” in the villa.
