Lower Decks Season 3 Brings Back a Fan-Favorite Klingon Character – Here’s What You Need To Remember

Although the Klingon was a major antagonist in “Star Trek: The Original Series,” the Klingon characters and their unique culture weren’t really extended until “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” In that series, Michael Dorn’s Worf, Starfleet’s first Klingon member, helped bridge the huge cultural gap between humans and Klingons. There are a few rich Klingon episodes on “The Next Generation,” but “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” really explores the Klingon Empire’s influence on the rest of the quarter and introduces fans to Martok, who met Worf while being captured by Jem’hadar and befriended his fellow warrior. Later episodes show his unusual (by human standards) romance with wife Sirella (Shannon Cochran) and a possible moment of weakness when he is asked to command a fight attack on Jem’hadar after his captivity. Martok is the most boned Klingon in the entire Worf saver franchise, and he’s a respectable dude.

Perhaps his loveliest moment in the series is when he sees Trill science officer Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) for the first time and calls her by the name of Dax’s former employer, Curzon. “Curzon, my old friend!” he yelled as he hugged her, and she gently corrected him that her name was Jadzia now. “Jadzia, my old friend!” he smiled, immediately recognizing her and honoring her.

Martok eventually becomes Premier of the Klingon Empire when Worf kills the previous prime minister, Gowron (Robert O’Reilly). As Chancellor, Martok helps Captain Sisko and the Federation win the War of Domination, which means he sure heading to Klingon Valhalla, Sto’vo’kor.
