But a Greater Manchester Police Disciplinary Committee ruled that the couple, who were in a relationship and living together, had lied to have a car impounded and towed away.

Now the couple have been told they have their last chance with the force after the panel reached a conclusion of gross misconduct.

Sgt. Hague and PC Bowker had returned home from a night out to discover their neighbor’s VW Golf was “deliberately blocking” one of their parking spaces. the Manchester Evening News reports.

PC Bowker managed to get around the car to park his Mini – and then called the police, claiming he and Sgt Hague would soon have to get out to go to work.

He asked for help removing the car – and when asked if he knew who owned the Golf, he claimed he didn’t.

A few hours later, Sergeant Hague called 101 to say she was still blocked and unable to drive to work.

Instead, she claimed she was taken away.

The neighbor’s car was then towed away.

She later told the panel that she made the call before she even left the house and ended up driving her boyfriend’s car to the train station.

However, it turned out that she had lied “to exaggerate the trouble” she had caused “out of frustration.”

It was found that she had “shown a lack of integrity”, while PC Bowker had also lied when he said he didn’t know who the Golf’s owner was.

However, the panel ruled that the neighbor had acted in a “provocative” manner that “would have angered any sane person”.

It was also noted that none of the officers planned to lie in advance.

The report said the couple acted “deliberately and willfully” – but they had “complete rights to call the police and a reasonable expectation that action will be taken”.

‘PROVOCATIVE’

“They made a mistake by withholding information about the owner’s identity,” the report said.

“The panel was satisfied that neither PS Hague nor PC Bowker pose a threat to the public they serve.

“They each told a lie under emotional circumstances that did not lead the panel to conclude that either officer was inclined to be dishonest or untrue.”

Although the report does not contain any information on the establishment of the parking bays, Rules are clear when it comes to parking a vehicle in front of another person’s home.
