Lyra McKee’s family is urging those with a ‘political agenda’ not to use her picture

Journalist Lyra McKee’s family has urged anyone with a “political agenda” not to use her picture.
The Belfast woman died after being hit by a bullet during riots in the Creggan area of Londonderry in 2019.
The dissident Republican group New IRA has been implicated in the killing.
Sinn Fein has been criticized for allegedly contacting the group about a possible “collaboration agreement” to secure a border vote.
A letter from party leader Declan Kearney was leaked over the weekend just days before the Stormont election.
Nichola McKee Corner has said that anyone who uses her sister’s image to further her own political agenda is causing her family untold pain and suffering.
She spoke after posting a tweet that included a photo of Lyra.
The family has asked for the tweet to be removed.
“The pain and trauma of Lyra’s murder has not diminished for our family over the past three years,” said Ms. McKee Corner.
“Our memories of Lyra are so precious to us and to see her image being used by people who never knew her, who never understood what made her the inspirational person she was, just about any political point to do is indescribably heartless.
“You’re polluting Lyra’s memory. Shame on them,” she added.
