Macron calls Polish PM a ‘far-right anti-Semite who bans LGBT people’ – POLITICO

French President Emmanuel Macron called Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki “a far-right anti-Semite who bans LGBT people”.

In a wide-ranging interview with the French daily Le Parisien, Macron also described Morawiecki’s comments as “shameful”, comparing the French President’s frequent telephone calls with Russia’s Vladimir Putin to conversations with Hitler.

Earlier this week, the Polish prime minister criticized Macron for achieving little in his talks with Putin.

“Mr. President Macron, how many times have you negotiated with Putin, what have you achieved? Did you stop any of the actions that were taking place?” Morawiecki called at a press conference on Monday. “One should not negotiate with criminals… No one negotiated with Hitler. Would you negotiate with Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot?”

But Macron, who is just two days away from the first round of a presidential election, has defended his phone calls with the Russian leader.

“I take full responsibility for speaking to the Russian President on behalf of France to avoid war and build a new architecture for peace in Europe,” he said called Wednesday on French TV.
