MLB The Show 22 has been out for a little over a week (a bit longer if you paid for the Digital Deluxe Edition) and has received constant content updates and tweaks. Developer Sony San Diego Studio has now rolled out the first major update since the day-one patch; It fixes some issues (like repeating tutorials) and adds “new player pictures” as the game progresses.

We had to manually trigger the update on Switch (press “+” on the game’s HOME screen window, then “Software Update” and “Via Web”), and it will likely roll out automatically soon. Below are the full patch notes (that’s version 1.0.3 for the Switch version).

  • Fixed a bug that prevented the ump at home from making a call in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes prevented pause timers from counting down when controllers are disconnected.
  • Fixed a rare issue that caused the game to freeze when hitting balls in Foul Territory.
  • Batters who press R2 to view pitch history no longer affect the defensive player’s gesture portion of Pinpoint Pitching. Pressing R2 at the same time or after beginning the pitch motion no longer interrupts the defensive user. If the batter presses R2 before the pitch motion has started, the motion will not start.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a freeze at or around 3B in certain situations.
  • Users will now be notified if their jug is getting tired when 25% energy is left.
  • Continued Balance for Pitcher Energy in 3 Inning Modes: We’ve reduced pitcher energy by 15%, but more importantly, we’ve also reduced energy loss per pitch. This means that relievers can be used longer and more effectively.
    • DEVELOPER NOTE: You might think this is a step backwards from the update we released on April 12th when we increased RP and SP energy, but this rebalancing, specifically the reduction in energy loss per pitch, will ultimately result in pitchers being able to throw more pitches.

  • Fixed an issue that caused a soft lock to occur when making pinch hit substitutions.
  • Fixed an issue that caused users to get stuck on certain screens if a teammate or opponent exited the game before entering the game.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a crash when a user opened the voice chat menu while losing connection.
  • Changes to role rotations in 3v3. Now users switch to baserunner after batter.
  • Fixed an issue where the active batter would lose his batting round if the baserunning user was caught stealing to complete an inning.
  • Added a controller rumble when L2 is pressed to queue for stealing as a baserunner.

  • Fixed an issue that caused active perks to not work during gameplay if the active perk was placed in the 4th perk slot.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in the Ballplayer not appearing in the Ballplayer hub.
  • Various text adjustments throughout the mode.

  • Fixed an issue where the wrong team logo was displayed in mini-season games.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented or caused a lag for users attempting to join games.
  • Various crash fixes.

  • Fixed an issue where certain award-winning players were listed on the wrong team.
  • Fixed an issue that could result in MLB teams having too many players in a specific position on their playoff list.
  • Fixed an issue where incorrect letter grades were displayed for trainers that could be hired.
  • Improved intentional base-on-ball criteria for CPU.
  • Fixed an issue where All-Star performances were not being recorded when simming in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue in Rule 5 Draft that resulted in the user’s pick being skipped and the drafted player being passed to the next team in the draft order.
  • Fixed an issue where the Reliever of the Year award was not listing all players.
  • Fixed an issue where arbitration calculations could result in a salary below the MLB minimum.

  • Fixed an issue where player stats were missing after entering a fast track saved game.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented judges from being present in intro scenes.

  • Fixed an issue that caused created stadiums to sometimes lock when uploading. These stadiums should now be accessible in the vault.
  • Fixes and adjustments to various props and night lighting.

user interface

  • Fixed an issue that caused tutorials to appear multiple times.
  • Various text adjustments.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the screen to flicker black during pitch selection.

  • Introducing the Nike City Connect Houston Astros Jersey.
  • Over 400 new gamerpics are now featured across the franchise/MTO and on stadium jumbotrons.
  • Fixed an issue where incorrect team logos were displayed on the CIN Jumbotron.
  • Fixed an issue where the LAA Jumbotron would display incorrect defensive positions for players in the deployment.
  • Users can now skip presentations from Diamond Cinematic Packs by pressing Square (PlayStation) / X (Xbox) / Y (Nintendo Switch) twice.
  • Over 600 new player pictures to be seen on the Diamond Dynasty, My Inventory, and Player Cards screens.
  • Fixed an issue that caused wrist guards to display incorrectly in-game.
  • Various presentation and commentary adjustments and bug fixes in all modes.

We’ll see how the update works with the game after some time. One area where it’s still lagging is some rosters, but if it follows the trend of previous years, they might get an update on Friday (April 15).
