A 19-year-old man appeared at a special hearing in the Sligo District Court accused of raping a town girl last January.
he was charged with rape at St Mary’s GAA Grounds, Ballydoogan, Sligo this past 22nd January.
Evidence of arrest, charges and vigils were presented by Detective Garda Lydia Cawley.
The defendant, who is represented by attorney, Mark Cooney, did not respond when charges were brought to him.
Det Garda Cawley said she arrested the accused on Tuesday at 4.59pm and then charged him at 5:10pm.
Inspector Paul Kilcoyne objected to the bail and gave the reasons to Judge Sandra Murphy.
The court said the DPP directed that the matter be heard according to the indictment.
Judge Murphy refused bail and referred the detained defendant to the Harristown District Court hearing on Friday, March 11, according to the video link.
The judge told Mr Cooney that the defendant could apply for bail in the Supreme Court if he instructed. legal aid was granted to Mr. Cooney.
