Man (20 years) in critical condition after night attack in Monasterevin

Gardaí are asking for witnesses after the violent attack by two men in Co Kildare last night.

One of the victims, a man in his 20s, was found unresponsive in Dublin Road, Monasterevin and was taken to Tallaght Hospital by ambulance.

His condition is classified as critical.

The second man, in his early 50s, was treated at the scene for apparent facial injuries and was taken to Portlaoise Hospital by ambulance.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Shortly after 12.30am, Gardaí and emergency services arrived at the scene in Monasterevin following reports of an altercation between a group of people at the entrance of a building.

The crime scene is being kept for forensic examination and no arrests have been made to date.

An interim space has been set up at Kildare Garda Station.

The Gardaí investigation is appealing to witnesses to this incident to come forward and to those with camera footage to make it available to them.
