A man has been charged with the murder of a Ukrainian truck driver in south-east London.

Vitali Skrypniak was brutally attacked in the street on September 18 last year and left on the street to die.

But yesterday Christopher Brownly-Otiede was accused of killing the father of a child from Lviv Oblast in Ukraine, MyLondon reported.

Police were called at 10:13 p.m. last year to reports of a man injured outside Belvedere train station.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics who arrived at the scene, the 45-year-old was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched and the cause of death was determined to be a single stab wound to the chest.

Brownly-Otiede will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today (2 April).

Mr Skrypniak arrived in the UK on August 15 last year, just a month before his death, and was working for a logistics company moving goods.

He was off duty when he was stabbed but was found five minutes from his truck parked on Hailey Road.

The motive for his death remains unknown.

Mr Skyrpniak’s family previously said in a statement: “This is a great tragedy for our family.

“My daughter lost her husband and her son lost a father.

“We want those responsible to be punished with the maximum penalty.”

At the time of the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers said: “Vitali was a married man with an infant at home in Lviv Oblast.

“His death tore their lives apart, leaving his wife distraught and a young boy without a father.

“Our thoughts are with them and we are keeping them as informed as we can as our investigation progresses.

“Vitali was working hard as a truck driver but was free at the time of the incident.

“We believe he parked his vehicle overnight on Hailey Road, five minutes from Belvedere Station.

“He had bought some drinks and spent some time talking to other drivers before he was attacked.

“Vitali was left on the street to die. The motive at this point remains unclear; We remain open and are investigating a number of investigations.” Man, 27, charged with murder after stabbing Ukrainian father of child
