Planning a wedding is no easy task, but when it comes to making your guests have a good time, one of the most important things to think about is the catering – after all, a happy guest is a well-fed guest.
But one man on Reddit was forced to take matters into his own hands when he attended his friend’s wedding, as the only food available to all guests and members of the wedding party was a simple side salad and some veggies.
The man who was best man at the wedding knew the food wouldn’t be enough to keep him alive all day, but he didn’t want to upset his girlfriend by telling her she’d made a mistake — so he decided to “secretly order pizza” and steal a few slices from his car.
In his posthe said: “I was best man at my friend Sara’s wedding last week. I take medication that needs to be taken at a certain time of the day and also requires food so I asked Sara what time the food would be served.

“Well, this is a vegetarian wedding. I’m not a vegetarian but I have no problem not eating meat at a meal, especially when it comes to supporting my boyfriend. The only problem I had was figuring out the size of the meals. The entire course consisted of a side salad, a corn side, and a broccoli side.
“If this was just for a couple of hours it wouldn’t be a problem but as the wedding party has to arrive before everyone the whole event would take over 8 hours and I knew there was no way there would be a small salad and a one a few tablespoons of corn and broccoli would stop me. When Sara told me what they were serving, I said something like, ‘Oh, is there another main course?’ and she immediately got defensive, so I shut myself up before creating any more tension.
“Normally I would have been honest about all of this, but I could see she was already stressed and I didn’t want to add anything to that, so during the reception dinner I decided I would secretly order a pizza and meet the guy outside and just sneak off.” in and out here and there to grab some windows from my car.”
But the man’s plan spiraled out of control when he told another friend what he was up to, meaning word spread to the rest of the wedding party – some of whom were also starving.
The man ended up ordering four large pizzas, and the bride found out when she spotted the groom himself eating a slice next to the man’s car.
He added: “I told my friend and of course word got around to some other party members. There were about 12 other people on the order who got kicked out.
“I ordered 4 large ones and kept them in my car so people could just come and go and grab something when they got hungry. No one really seemed to notice until Sara couldn’t find the groom anywhere. She had her mom help her find him and as you can imagine she found him eating pizza by my car.
“To say she blew up was an understatement. She said I embarrassed her and made her feel cheap. I tried to apologize and explain the situation but she didn’t benefit. She told me to go while her mother glared at me with daggers.”
Commenters on the Reddit post were mostly on the man’s side, as many of them agreed that the food served at the wedding wasn’t enough to keep guests full.
One person said: “Even her husband ate the pizza. She was embarrassed that she was a poor hostess for the rest of the bridal party and that you actually provided filling food to the bridal party made that clear. What you did might be cheesy by some standards, but I don’t think it was a stupid move.”
Another added: “You should have kept the idea to yourself. They kept her out of reception so as not to cause a scene, but the groom going AWOL caused a problem. Funny how the bride is mad at you for eating pizza but not her new husband.”
