Man arrested after Dublin hostel fire

A man in his 30s has been arrested after a fire at a homeless shelter in Dublin city center left several people injured, one seriously.

The fire broke out around 6pm yesterday in a building on Little Britain Street, off Capel Street, in the north city centre.

Six Dublin Fire Brigade units attended the blaze and a spokesman said a number of people were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Gardaí also confirmed their presence at the scene and said six people were taken to Mater Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

One person, believed to be a woman, was described as being in serious condition, but it was not known if the injuries were life-threatening.

The fire was put out by the Dublin Fire Brigade and the scene sealed off and preserved to allow for a technical investigation.
