Man arrested after kicking in Busaras’ doorstep

An “extremely aggressive” man has been arrested for drunkenly kicking the front door of Dublin’s main bus station, a court has heard.

Paul Kearney, 44, of three, had turned to alcohol after his house was confiscated and he was left homeless.

Judge Bryan Smyth fined him €300 in Dublin District Court.

Kearney, who is of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to threatening, abusive and abusive conduct.

The court heard that gardaí were on patrol on Store Street on May 1 when they saw Kearney being extremely aggressive, kicking Busáras’ front door and shouting “let me in” repeatedly.

He was heavily intoxicated and fell after kicking the bus station door.

The court also heard him shout “f**k off” at Lake Garda.

After being arrested and charged, he sobered up and “appeared to be a different man,” a Garda said.

Kearney was mired in depression and drug and alcohol use after his family broke up and his home was foreclosed, his attorney Mervyn Harnett said.

The defendant has received treatment and now appears to be in control of the issues that “brought him here,” the lawyer added. Man arrested after kicking in Busaras’ doorstep
